Why Do Some People Ignore The Rules?

Why Do Some People Ignore The Rules? Why Do Some People Ignore the Rules?

Why do some people ignore the rules and in particular now?

A lot of countries are currently in lockdown due to coronavirus.  Social distancing is the current word, although others prefer it to be called people distancing.

Whatever you call it, we have been asked to stay at home.  If we do go out for shopping etc then we have to stay 2 metres apart from anyone else.

There are lots of other things we can and can’t do but you get the gist.

A great many people are listening to their government advice and doing what they should.  However, daily, we see pictures of people flouting that advice and ignoring what they’ve been told.

Those same people irritate the hell out of those that are following the guidelines.

Why do some people ignore the rules?

I did a “bit” of research and it mainly comes down to some people have a sense of ENTITLEMENT.  They feel entitled to do what the hell they like.  The rules are for others, not for them.

Let’s look outside this current crisis.

How many times have you seen someone parking in a disabled spot when they aren’t disabled?

Parking where they shouldn’t when dropping the kids off at school.

I am sure you can think of many scenarios where you see people flouting the rules.

It’s all about their feelings of entitlement. (in my opinion)

“A sense of entitlement is the epitome of the “Me! Me! Me!” attitude where the world is supposed to revolve around a single person and what they want.”

I have a feeling this is why we see people ignoring all the advice about social distancing and doing exactly what they want to do.

I love this quote below from Andrew Cuomo:

“It’s not about your life.  You don’t have the right to risk someone else’s life.  And you don’t have the right, frankly, to take a health care staff and people who are literally putting their lives on the line, and be cavalier or reckless with them”

I can’t say I am sure how we deal with people who flout the rules and ignore the advice.

However, it helps sometimes to understand the attitude of some people.

I would love to hear your views.
