Twitter: How To Use It In 6 Simple Steps

TwitterTwitter: How To Use It In 6 Simple Steps

Twitter:  Everyone seems to be Tweeting these days, including celebrities, politicians and yes, home business entrepreneurs.

Many people avoid twitter because they don’t understand it and to be honest, it is an entirely different vehicle to Facebook.

I’m lucky because this is something I picked up fairly quickly and enjoy using and I recently picked up a lot more followers.

How about you?

Do you understand tweeting, liking, following etc?  Or does this all seem like a foreign language?

I have a Twitter account and use it all of the time. It is very simple to do. Just look at my stats as I write this.

– TWEETS: 6,095
– FOLLOWING: 3,492
– FOLLOWERS: 3,814
– LISTS: 10

Here are the steps of setting up a Twitter account and how easy it is to use.Twitter

1. Open your own Twitter account.

Just Google search how to do this and you will find plenty help. You can also go to You Tube and watch an instructional video if that is easier for you. Then head over to the Twitter site itself.

2. Choose your handle.

This could be your name or business name. If those are taken choose a handle that describes what your business is or does. Mine is Lyndakonline.

3. Add your bio.

This is where it pays to become an internet spy. Look at the bio of a few of your friends, relatives, or business partners. Take what you like from some of them to create your own.

4. Add your photo.

This helps people know who you are, or if they already know who you are it confirms they are on the right Twitter account for you. I don’t know about you but I wouldn’t connect with people if I couldn’t see who they were or what they look like.

5. Start following people.

If you have a business already search for your partners and follow them. You can do the same for friends and relatives. This will be ongoing, so do not worry about following hundreds of people the first day.

6. Do a tweet.

Type in 140 characters or less and hit the tweet button. If you are going to add a link to something use a url shortener. Google has one. So does Tiny Url or Bitly.

Don’t get hung up on understanding everything about Twitter right now (hashtags for example).   Just get an account going and start using it. You can easily learn how to effectively use it for promotion down the road.
