The Trick Of Being Ordinary When Marketing Online

The Trick Of Being Ordinary WhenThe Trick Of Being Ordinary When Marketing Online

What is this –  The Trick of Being Ordinary when marketing online?   What has this to do with you?  Well, have you ever found yourself in a situation where you just don’t understand all the jargon thats around?  If thats you, then my video today will delight and entertain you.

The Trick Of Being Ordinary is a book I came across in my Social Work Career in the 80’s and 90’s written by David Brandon.

I can’t remember all the details of the book.  What did strike me was how we should use the “Trick Of Being Ordinary” when working, communicating and helping other people.

Davids book was a MIND publication which is part of the mental health field. He reminded us its too easy to use language and behave so professional that we can forget to be “ordinary”  Being ordinary, is something that many of us prefer rather than be intimidated by the over use of jargon and “over the top” professionalism.

I only mention this because the use of jargon and losing sight of being an “ordinary” human being can often mean that we can misunderstand, not understand at all or feel foolish about not knowing something.

In my video today, I talk in a very “ordinary” fashion, explaining how this can be related to our work when marketing online, prospecting, recruiting and communicating with other people.

Could you relate to any of the points I raised in the video?  If you are anything like me you probably did.  There is nothing worse than “being in the dark”  not knowing what terms mean.  The over use of jargon is one of the most annoying things around.  It can lead to people feeling inadequate for not knowing something.  I am much more confident these days and I will ask if I don’t know something.  However, not all of us are able to do this.  Thats why its so important that when we are communicating with others, either in written form, in video or face to face we should speak in a way that people understand what we are talking about.

The real issue here, is we should not make any assumptions that what you know, someone else knows.

I hope and trust you got some value from todays post The Trick Of Being Ordinary When Marketing Online.  Please feel free to leave me a comment if you did.

OMG…..POWERFUL!!! Lynette & I were talking about this just yesterday. Using jargon, in my opinion, is a “recruiting-killer.” You will literally scare people away. GREAT, GREAT POINT & POST!!!
