How To Be The Real YOU Online.

February 15, 2017 by Lynda Kenny 8 Comments

How To Be The Real YOU OnlineHow To Be The Real YOU Online.

The real you is something you want to be working on with all your content on your blog, social media and videos.

Last weekend I was fortunate to be at Ray Higdon’s Personal Branding and Marketing Bootcamp in Florida.  One of the speakers was Kim Garst, who is well known for her expertise in Social Media.

Kim shared tips on being the real you, especially concerning Social Media.

The Real You – Points To Remember

People are more connected than ever due to the internet.  It’s more important now than its ever been to be real.  Kim suggested we “fake realness” and spend too much time copying other people.

What we need to do is become more real, authentic and genuine.

Authenticity Attracts people because:

Its rare and its real

Trust is created by being raw and genuine.

Questions To Ask

What do you stand for?

Why are you here?

I agree with Kim when she said BS is everywhere and we can smell it a mile off.  People KNOW when you aren’t being genuine.

With all that in mind, you have to figure out who you are.

You are what attracts your tribe.  You’re vibe attracts your tribe

The 5 Star Social Compass

The chart below is Kim’s 5 star social compass.  To come up with your own, look at the list below to work out what matters.5 star compass

Go  through the list and write down whats important to you and pick the 5 that means the most to you.  When you have decided, then you can plan the types of things you post that speak directly from the real you.  This approach will also help you to be more strategic with your content and you will begin to post with a purpose in mind.

When you next put a quote post on Facebook, make sure it relates to your core list of values in your social compass.

Social Media

When thinking about your list and your content, remember what Social Media is really all about.  Its about life, about “them”.  People connect with family, friends and you need to post things that matter to them.

YOU have to become someone that matters to them.

We all like to be entertained as well as educated, so serve them instead of selling to them.

Build relationships by engaging and talking to people.  Ask them how you can help.  Listen to what they are saying and try to reach out to three people a day.

Where is your target market hanging out?  Decide which Social Media Platform you are going to use and find out where to best hang out yourself.  Facebook for instance, has 1.6 billion users so there is plenty to go at.

Summary

These are just some of the things that Kim Garst shared with us at the bootcamp.  She is well worth following and is seen as an expert on social media.

The best thing is to use this post to really figure out the real you.  Stop copying other people because you think you should be like them and be the original and genuine you.  You will find more people will resonate with you and connect, leading to more people to talk to about your business.

I agree, we have the best job in the world, and that job is just being ourselves. So many people fail to realize this. I believe that it is way to hard and wastes way too much energy trying to be like someone else. I think I like being me and my wish is for other people to feel the same way about themselves. Great post Lynda!!

Thanks a lot Gary. When I look back, when I began, I was trying to be someone I’m not and I find it a relief to learn and be who I really am. Its the only way. You can also tell when you meet someone for real whether they are being themselves online as well.
