This is what happens when I Try To Be Technical.
Technical I’m not lol. I used to think I was but I have to admit, I’m not.
When I started an online business I soon found I had to learn some technical skills
Unfortunately, all I could do was open emails and it was only later I learned about putting them into little folders.
So, not only did I have to learn stacks of stuff about online marketing, I had to learn some technical things as well. Important because I wanted a blog.
In the beginning I wasted so much time trying to do everything myself when all I really needed to do was give it to someone else to do. I did do this in the end.
Nowadays there are many platforms that provide a blogging platform for you. In fact the one I am with now does. CHECK IT OUT.
Have you noticed though, that some people are total geeks when it comes to anything technical? They are the people you should connect with and hire to do stuff for you.
Seeing as I am not I kept looking and eventually found my own “geek”
Before that let me tell you what happened yesterday.
My Sunday- Technical Disaster
On a Sunday morning I always begin by having my usual coffee and breakfast and then prepare Sunday Lunch. Once that’s done I like to do some blog posts for the coming week.
I goes into the dashboard of my blog (here) and saw some updates needed doing on some plugins, 10 in fact. I usually leave it to my Word Press Saviour Jill Sessa. Jill looks after this site and deals with anything technical on my behalf. Things like updates, security, any technical issues, plus loads of other services.
Without thinking though, I thought I would update the plugins myself.
I thought it would be ok.
After updating everything, the whole site, including the dashboard, the url, everything…. disappeared!
Poof… gone, just like that.
OMG what the heck had I done?
I tried everything but the site had disappeared. It was only then that I remembered I shouldn’t have interfered with updates when I pay for a service from Jill.
The reason for that is some plugins have an issue with everything else. Don’t ask me what. Seriously, I have no idea. All I know is there are conflicts between certain things.
I have learned loads of new skills when it comes to tech stuff but there are some things I just don’t know and thats why I have someone like Jill in my life.
Lesson Learned
After crashing and killing my site, I emailed Ultimate WordPress Help straight away telling Jill what had happened.
Within a few hours (time difference, I am in Europe, Jill is in the USA) the site was up and running again.
The problem had been caused by one of the updates and Jill reminded me (nicely) thats what she was there for. Ok, I was politely told off ha ha .
If you are someone who gets cold shivers when it comes to technical things, I would encourage you to get expert help.
Besides Jill, who I know well, there are many people out there who thrive on this. I’m not one of them. You can’t be good at everything can you?
There is a saying in the UK that I use a lot “Why Fret Pet”.
I hereby make a solemn promise never to do updates again ha ha.
Hope your Sunday was a better one than mine. Talk later folks.

Now Lynda I would of gone crazy lol but thank you so much for sharing because I totally would of been stuck. Awesome share Lynda
It was totally weird the way everything disappeared. If I typed the URL nothing showed up and I couldn’t do a thing because I couldn’t get into the dashboard either. I certainly freaked out lol
i feel your pain. we have all been there but it goes to show that you dont have to be technical to make money online
You are right there Sheena, we don’t have to be technical to do this. The thing is to admit it and leave it to someone else
“Jill reminded me (nicely) thats what she was there for. Ok, I was politely told off ha ha”………..This is too funny, but it was a learning experience. This is how I learned. It was by messing up over and over until I figured it out or paid someone to figure it out for me. Those plugins can be a blessing, but they can also be some nasty buggers, when they don’t act right.
Hi,Gary it ended up being the Pretty Link update that upset things. Love what you said – thank you
