What Should You Be Selling To Grow Your Business?
Selling is a word most of us don’t like if we are truthful. If you own a home business and you don’t sell, you don’t make a profit.
What are you really selling?
Or should I ask “What should you be selling?”
For the purpose of this post today I am going to assume you are a network marketer.
If you are struggling to recruit into your company then I encourage you to read to the end because this post will help you to make your business more successful.
What You Should Be Selling
The question is what are you really selling? If you are in network marketing you have probably been told to make your list. Your Up-line has told you to talk to more people and the more no’s you get the sooner you get to a yes.
Does this ring any bells?
How is that working so far for you?
If you are like 80%+ of other people then you are struggling to sponsor anyone. Believe me I know because I have been there.
I haven’t got a degree in marketing but I have invested thousands to learn as much as I can pass it on to those that need it.
The first thing to know is this when it comes to selling: People do not buy products. They buy solutions.
The second thing to know is you need to sell YOU. Not the business opportunity, not the product, YOU
The following is what I learned from Ann Seig, who is huge in network marketing. She operates a website called The Renegade Blog. Inside her system she suggests the following:-
- Sell Yourself
- Sell your marketing system
- Do this through education
My coach Ray Higdon has grown his business dramatically by providing education to his followers. People have reached out to him and wanted to join him despite not knowing which company he was with. Ray isn’t in a network marketing company now but when he was, he was a top earner, recruiting hundreds if not thousands into his team.
What I am sharing with you today works. Its been proven over and over again.
Why Should You Be Selling YOU?
People do not want a business opportunity. They want a solution to their problems.
Maybe they are in a dead end job they hate. They know if they leave it will be the same in the next job.
Most of us have goals and aspirations and know deep down there has to be more to life than the rat race.
To help people achieve what they want we have to know that we are in the business of solving problems. I never really understood this until I learned more about it and what it really meant.
What you have to do is show people a real, viable solution NOT an “off the peg biz pop”.
Network marketing is a means to an end for thousands of people.
You have to be the person who gives them the direction they need and show them how to do it.
Most people are afraid to begin a business, in fact, it scares the living daylights out of some people. They see hundreds of opportunities on the internet, all promising the same thing.
If you don’t stand out and be different then why on earth should they think about joining you?
You have to sell yourself before you even think about selling your business opportunity.
Any decision to join you will come from the way you make them feel and the value you give to them. You will play a much bigger role in their journey than any company can.
I love this quote from Ann Seig:
“Ask not what your prospect can do for you, Ask what you can do for your prospect.”
This is why you see so many posts and blog articles about branding yourself as opposed to your company. There are other reasons you should do this as well and you might enjoy a previous post I did on branding:
Branding Yourself Online #3 Key Things To Know
By positioning yourself as an expert you are giving leadership and know how.
You do this by educating your audience and giving them value. Everything you learn, you teach it to others. People want to be shown how, with everything laid out in simple steps.
As Ann Seig says “The way in which you do business is how you sell your ability to help them succeed”.
Words are not enough. You have to prove you can show people the how. You do this with your social media, your blog posts, videos, Facebook live plus many other ways.
When you market, market information.
Thats what people are looking for – a solution to their problems. The information you provide will help them.
I will conclude with a quote:
“You have to sell yourself as a person – but you have to sell your ability to help them get what they want”
The way in which you do business is how you demonstrate your ability to help someone else. – Ann Seig
There is much more can be added about this subject. It is the basis of attraction marketing.
I would encourage you to learn as much as you can so you can be that servant leader people are looking for.
