Self Awareness – Why does it Matter?

July 15, 2018 by Lynda Kenny Leave a Comment

Self Awareness  – Why does it Matter?

You may be wondering what self awareness  means and why it matters.

Its important to know exactly what it means and why  it will help you understand yourself and other people.  In turn this will improve your communication skills when working with your team and other people.

Having spent many years as a Social Worker and received extensive training in inter personal skills and how to communicate with people from all walks of life, I know how much this information will help you with your personal nd professional development.

Self awareness of what makes us tick gives us the skills and knowledge to understand others as well as ourselves.

It can relate to knowing your own values, beliefs, personal preferences and tendencies.  You might see a lot of quotes that tell you to be “True to yourself”.  Thats ok as long as you KNOW who you are.

Have you really explored what your values  and beliefs are?

Anyone who is working with people where you are in the business of recruiting, and retaining the people needs to be much more self aware.  There is always room to grow to another level.

Having watched the video I hope you have a better understanding of  how self awareness can help  you in life and business.

Tips To Being More Self Aware

  1. Practice being more mindful, tune in to your inner thoughts.
  2. Keep a journal – write down your thoughts and feelings.
  3. Practice being a good listener – listen to others.  Its the best way to make someone feel valued.
  4. Gain different perspectives – ask others how you come across.

Becoming more aware of ourselves can be a painful process, especially when we learn things we weren’t aware of.

Once you do become more aware and understand yourself, you will be better equipped to work with others and have a better understanding of them.
