Reawakenment
Reawakenement can mean many different things and I wanted to share with you what it means for me, and for you too (I hope) and why it was called the Reawakenment Movement.
I work online and when I began, I ignored/denied my age, believing I should aim my marketing at, mostly, the younger generation.
It was arrogant of me to think that no one else over 50 would want to do what I was doing.
Thanks to my coach, Rebecca Woodhead, I finally saw the light and moved to wanting to work with more people from my own generation.
After all, we share a past; experiences and some of us are in a growth period of either, working towards ending employment, or employment ending already.
Working at home has been liberating and allowed me to have a purpose once again, something I lost when I ended my career in 2006.
“Helping you reawaken to your true purpose” is now a vision that is meant for all of you.
That is not to mean that everyone I meet should want to work online for themselves – there are many ways you can be reawakened.
When my coach came up with the term reawakenment it was a word that meant something positive to me.
For instance, I dislike the following words: –
Old, Retired (we took the tired out of retired!), Older Age, Pensioners, Over the Hill, Senile, Elderly + many more
Reawakenment is not to deny our age – it is to conjure up a more positive image of someone who is entering another phase of life and not be stigmatized by the images that come up by the words above.
The reawakenment movement is meant to celebrate and remember our generational past and all it has taught us and to show the world that we are still an important part of our society.
I have done a lot of research on ageism, and I have learned more about the discrimination one can experience in later life, particularly in the work place. There are health issues that affect us and financial ones too. These are for another day and I will write about them for sure.
Other “older” generations were much more respected for their experience and wisdom in the past and its time to regain the respect and value that our generation can offer.
For now, I wanted to share with you my vision and together, I hope we can combat stereotypical views but most of all enjoy being reawakened to our true purpose, whatever that would mean for you.
