Las Vegas: A Review Of Our Recent Trip
I have just returned from my 9th visit to Las Vegas and thought it would be fun to review our trip and give you some idea of what to expect if you visit it yourself. Or maybe you are thinking about it and not sure if its for you.
In the past I have stayed at the Mirage, MGM Grand and the Bellagio Hotel.
However, around six years ago the Aria Hotel was built and we have stayed there ever since.
We visit other hotels to look around but we are very happy with the Aria. Its bright, cheerful, modern and each visit we have been happy with the staff, the service and the many facilities on hand.
The famous saying, that what happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas is quite true. You are almost in a bubble and nothing else exists outside it while you are there.
The people I have spoken to over the years leave me with one thing – you either love Las Vegas or you hate it. There seems to be no in between.
Hotels in Las Vegas
There are many famous ones you have probably heard of Cesars Palace, The Bellagio, The Venetian, The Paris to name a few. All those are on the what is known as the strip. My recommendation for anyone visiting Las Vegas would be to stay at a hotel on the strip.
Our current favourite, as I mentioned earlier, is the Aria Hotel which is part of the MGM group. We love the newness of it, the staff, the casino feels light and airy, the restaurants and definitely the hotel rooms. Due to there being four of us who travel together, we always have a two bedroom sky suite. It makes life a lot easier being together and they are large enough for you to have your own privacy when you want it as well.
We enjoyed the Mirage and the The Bellagio when we stayed there. One hotel we didnt particularly enjoy was the MGM Grand. We found it tired and the room we were given was no where near as nice as previous ones we have stayed in.
The Casinos in Las Vegas
Whether you like gambling or not, you can’t really escape the casinos. In most hotels you usually have to walk through them to get to your room. We like a gamble, particularly on the slot machines, however, if you are going to have a flutter, make sure you pace yourself money wise. Believe me, its easy to spend and spend and run out of money quite quickly. Take enough and allocate what you are going to spend each day and don’t waver, unless you win of course. What you don’t want, is to run out of money in Las Vegas.
We learned many years ago to be part of the players club of the hotel group you are staying with. We have always stayed in hotels that are part of the MGM group. Being in the players club and using the provided card when gambling will gain you points each time you play. These points can add up to valuable benefits for your stay. In the past we have accumulated enough to have reductions in room rates, meals and had some nights for free.
Entertainment
There is so much to do in Las Vegas besides gamble. There are many shows and sights to see. Each hotel has its own pool complex where you can chill out by the swimming pool. Remember, the hotels are resorts with so many facilities like spas, restaurants, shops, nightclubs etc.
You can spend time visiting the shopping malls – there is the Forum shops in Cesars Palace, The High Mile Shops , The Fashion show, besides the outlets off the strip. The new High Roller, which is like the London Eye is well worth a visit, giving you fabulous views of the strip. Its particularly amazing at night. You can even book a “pod” with a bar and enjoy a drink or two while travelling on this awesome big wheel.
If you are a golfer, there are many golf courses in and around Las Vegas and your hotel will be more than happy to book your tee times for you. In some cases they will arrange transport.
On our last visit our Players Club slot host arranged a limo to take us the Shadow Creek where we had our own caddy and enjoyed a fabulous game of golf. We felt like royalty and would definitely recommend it. Its not a public course so it has to be booked through your hotel.
Fremont Street in downtown Las Vegas is worth a visit. Lots of hotels, restaurants , street stalls and street entertainment. They have a false roof over the street where they have light shows in the roof to music. Its a fabulous experience and a fun place to be. We usually take a taxi ride down there but you can take the local bus too if you prefer.
Definitely book a show. We booked to see Rod Stewart at Cesars Palace which was fantastic. In the past we saw Mama Mia and the Blue Man Show at the Monte Carlo. Really good shows. In fact, many of the shows in Las Vegas are worth seeing.
Helicopter Rides.
You can book them to visit the Grand Canyon (highly recommended) The Hoover Dam, and even ones that take you down the strip. All fabulous experiences that I recommend you do while you are there.
If you like fairground rides, the New York New York hotel has its own roller coaster and other rides and the Circus Circus has an amusement park as well.
The Stratosphere has rides at the very top of its tower, not for the faint hearted though. There is also a restaurant that revolves while you eat at the top of the Stratosphere that gives you awesome views of Las Vegas. We loved it. Its not the cheapest of meals but well worth at least one visit.
Other restaurants with views can be had. We particularly enjoyed the Voodoo Lounge at the Rio Hotel.
Fancy having a go shooting a gun? There are many places you can go to do this in Las Vegas.
A Short Video Of Our Trip
Summary
Las Vegas is an amazing place. We love it. There is loads to do, even if you don’t like gambling. Its not the cheapest place to visit so you need to save some and more. The restaurants in the hotels and on the strip can be expensive as are some of the shows.
However, if you are fully prepared for this then be prepared to have fun. The outside world doesn’t exist when you are there and you can really chill and have a fabulous time.
If you like really quiet holidays then maybe LAs Vegas is not for you, however, if you love the bright lights and lots of fun then you will love it. You can learn more from their official website by clicking HERE
