Influencing others in your life is how you get people to believe in you, buy from you, invest in you and follow you.
To influence more then you need people skills to do it, right?
Developing the right skills not only helps your business it will impact your relationships as well.
There are various elements to influencing more people and I would like to share some of those ideas with you today.
Just before that though.
I learned this from the person who trained me to be a coach, Brendon Burchard.
We use some of these techniques in high performance coaching to help clients gain more influence in their life.
Influencing Others – What Are People Skills?
People skills are the skills we use every day when we communicate and interact with other people. Both individually and in groups.
When you have strong interpersonal skills you are often more successful in both your professional and personal life.
I encourage you to get better at people skills otherwise, influencing others will be tough for you.
I read a blog post by Matt Morris, a great leader who recommended good books to read on improving your people skills You can READ THAT HERE
The books he suggests are highly recommended and they are what I would have listed myself.
Who Influenced You In Your Life?
Ask yourself who has impacted and influenced you in a positive way in your life.
It might be a family member, a colleague, a friend.
Why did they influence you?
What was it they did that had an impact?
Whoever it was they taught you how to think. They made you think about yourself and the world around you.
You were probably taught how to treat others and it gave you a new perspective on everything.
In other words you were taught how to think.
Influence Others By Teaching THEM How To Think
After thinking about who influences or has influenced you, now you can think about how YOU can do the same for others.
Where do you start?
Firstly, before breezing into any situation, ask what you want people to think about after you have spoken with them.
Be more purposeful about changing peoples thoughts.
Please note, this is not about negative manipulation. You should always be explicit and transparent, acting with integrity.
In other words, in my language, you are not in any way to “brainwash” anyone.
Instead, you can be helpful in a direct and positive way.
“Think of it this way………”
“What do you think about……”
“What would happen if we tried……….”
“What’s the best way to think about this…”
Your thoughts will have been changed in your life by someone planting other ideas in your head. If you want to influence more people then you have to do the same.
Another good way to influence another person is by listening. Pay attention to them and HEAR what they are saying. This one simple thing will have more impact on them than you realise.
