Being An Entrepreneur Online Is Not For Everyone
A great many people are now striving to become an entrepreneur online with the huge rise in people using the internet. Many, including several friends of mine, are making a huge success of it.
Sadly, many don’t either and often quit before they have even really started.
Entrepreneur, according to google and other dictionaries online means:
“a person who sets up a business or businesses, taking on financial risks in the hope of profit.”
Its a word used quite loosely by many people now, especially those working online in the home business arena.
However, the meaning is taken there are many people who are now striving to become an entrepreneur online, working towards the freedom and extra income they want in their life. I praise each and every one of them for venturing into this world. I did it myself years ago and I am doing it again now through the internet.
How I Became An Entrepreneur
I had trained to be a Social Worker and specialised eventually in the Foster Care arena, working with Foster Carers who looked after children in the care system. They worked hard, were paid little and often under valued by the Local Authorities who had recruited them. This was frustrating for me as their support worker and my hands were tied due to lack of resources and money.
When I had the opportunity in the 90’s to set up an Independent Fostering Agency in my area I jumped at the chance, despite the risks of giving up a secure job that was reasonably well paid, in addition to risking my career. I believed it was worth it.
For instance, I wanted the freedom from bureaucracy, freedom to be creative and the possibility of determining my own income. The other, more important thing, was to be in a position to provide the best service possible to the Foster Carers and the children they looked after.
Those were my “why’s”. Those reasons motivated me beyond belief and drove me every single day to make the business a success. Along with others like me, across the UK, we did make it a success and eventually we became the largest Independent Fostering Agency of its kind.
I Played Devil’s Advocate
When I was recruiting Foster Carers I often played devils advocate and did everything I could to talk them out of it. This was to test their motivation and desire to become one, despite all the pitfalls and difficulties in the road ahead. If after all of that they still wanted to be a Foster Carer and they proved to me their true reasons, then I went ahead with their assessment. In your recruitment efforts online, or in any business, the principles are the same in my opinion. Why would we want to set someone up for failure?
Why Being An Entrepreneur Online Isn’t For Everyone
You might ask why I am now an entrepreneur online.
The main reasons are to inspire others to know that if they want something enough it can be achieved.
Since retirement, I found myself without purpose and working alongside others from all around the world has brought back new vigour and purpose into my life.
Thirdly, I found a product that most people love to use and do – travel. I travel a lot now and the memories and experiences it can give you and your family is priceless.
What Now?
You have to ask yourself why you want to become/continue to be an entrepreneur online and are your reasons strong enough to motivate you each and every day?
Have you got that burning hunger to make it work?
Are you self motivated enough to take control and be prepared to learn everything you can in order for you to be successful AND teach it to others?
Are you prepared to take calculated risks to get what you want in life?
If you can answer all those things positively, then go for it…… it could change your life forever for the better.

Building a business online is not for everyone. There are some risk and there is hard work involved. People sometimes think of it as a lottery ticket which is the furthest thing from the truth. Great video thanks for sharing Lynda!

An interesting post, Lynda. I’m an online entrepreneur and have to admit that I’ve had (and still have) my struggles. Thanks for the motivation, and keep up the good work!
We would all be lying if we said we didnt have some kind of struggles Tom. Everyone has them. The most important thing is overcoming them and finding a way forward. Thanks for commenting, I appreciate it.
