Christmas Is Coming – Are You Glad?
Christmas is just three weeks away as I write this blog post.
How do you feel about Christmas? If you are anything like my husband then you might be a “Bah-humbug”.
While I love having everyone around, cooking and entertaining them, my husband hates it.
I was inspired to write a post about Christmas from my good friend and fellow blogger Angela Brooks. She has a great blog so head over and take a look. It turns out that she feels exactly the same about Christmas as my husband but for very different reasons.
Angela and I know each other because we are both members of Ray Higdon’s Top Earner Club Mastermind coaching programme. She is an ex nurse, as is my husband. So we found we had quite a lot in common.
Back to Christmas.
Christmas means different things to different people. There are those that absolutely love it and those that hate it. Then there are people who dread it for various reasons.
The truth for people like my husband is he can’t think of anything worse than having a crowd of people there, treading on egg shells, worrying about pleasing everyone, ha ha.
I used to work with someone who dreaded it because her husband and sons saw it as an opportunity to drink like crazy and every Christmas day dinner was ruined because of their drunken behaviour.
It has become a huge commercialised time of year now and the real and true meaning of it has all but disappeared from our lives.
Back In The Day
When my children were smaller and I was a single parent, despite the fact I love the time of year, it was also a stressful time. I used to look around at the presents I could buy for them and could never afford.
On the day itself we used to visit my sister for dinner. Her three children used to have sacks full of presents and I used to feel bad that my own children had nothing like that.
Even with what I did buy, I had borrowed money to do it which often took me till the following summer to pay off. After that, it started all over again.
Now that I am older and wiser, I would advise against doing what I did….. getting a loan out to buy presents. Its crazy now I look back. Yet, the way it is commercialised it is easy to get into that way of thinking. Especially if you don’t want to think your own children are missing out.
Its a Sentimental Time Of Year
Its true. Most of us get more sentimental about Christmas.
We feel sorry for people who are alone with no family.
Comments are made if someone passes away…. “Thats terrible at any time of year but at Christmas its even worse”.
How many times have you heard that said?
The vision in my mind is family being together, happy and jolly, enjoying good food and good times. When we see someone who doesn’t have that our feelings are one of sadness for them.
People have generous hearts and donate to local children’s homes making sure they get a present.
Those that never go to church attend their local mass or evening services.
After All That Planning Its Over
Yes, we spend months getting prepared and ready and its over in a flash.
In England we have whats called Boxing day. Many people rush out and buy in the sales.
Its a bit like Black Friday in America.
After that New Years Eve awaits.
Every single year I look forward to Christmas, despite all the stresses and strains that go with it. For example, worrying what to give as presents, all the food to buy, organising the celebrations.
Every single year my husband dreads it and if it was left to him, we wouldn’t even have a tree, ha ha.
How do you feel about Christmas? I would love to know.

Love Christmas and all comes with it! There is nothing better than to see friends and families faces when all together enjoying the moment. The gift of giving is so powerful, not just for those receiving but for those who genuinely give from the heart!
