More Baby Boomers Are Living To 100
One of the biggest challenges facing the Baby Boomer generation is the fact that more Baby Boomers are living to 100. Medicine has advanced at a rate that is unheard of, and with each advance it seems like science’s ability to find the next great medical breakthrough becomes that much easier and that much faster.
There’s little doubt that a large number of Baby Boomers could live to be 100 years old. In fact many already are.
Baby Boomers Are Living To 100: Why?
While this might seem ridiculous to some people, there are many reasons to think this might not be far off from the truth.
After all, even though the average lifespan might be 78 years, the thing is that people born 78 years ago did not expect to live that long.
The average life expectancy was much lower back then, but advances in health, social systems, and science has meant that people can live longer and better.
Those advances are still being made, and common nutritional and fitness knowledge the last few decades is better than it was a century before. This means that Baby Boomers grew up healthier and are now hitting an older age at a time when retirement can be more active, healthier, and receive a level of medical help that was non-existent 20 years ago.

Should Baby Boomers Keep Working?
Since Baby Boomers could live to be 100 in numbers never seen before, this doesn’t just affect questions about things like Social Security, but also affects a lot of other things.
Should Baby Boomers work longer before taking their pensions or Social Security?
Should they look at part time jobs,
re-consider how to budget for retirement,
or start an online business?
These are very legitimate questions that need to be taken seriously. They not only affect Baby Boomers who are inching towards that retirement age, but all the social structures that support older people.
While there are still discussions and arguments over how many people can actually make it to the century mark, there’s no question that more people are going to live longer than ever, and many already are.
Even if they don’t live to be 100 years old, there are still going to be more Baby Boomers hitting their 70’s, 80’s, and even their 90’s.
That means, from individuals planning for the long term, to governments adjusting their policies to meet an aging population, there’s a lot to tackle so everyone can have their fair share of the “Golden Years.” You might like a previous article I wrote, Retiring Baby Boomers, Can You Really Live On Less In Retirement

Super interesting post, Lynda! It’s crazy how things advance over the years!
Things have advanced a great deal Edna. I would like to live that long as long as I was healthy and not a burden to others.
Advances in our knowledge of health and medicine has had a tremendous impact on people living longer lives. It’s also spilled over to kids as well. I look at some of the younger athletes like in high school. They are so much bigger stronger and faster than the kids were from when I was in school. I hope when I hit my retirement age that I’m able to be super active and still enjoy life. Great post Lynda! Thanks for sharing.
You are so right Dereco. My kids are much fitter than I was at their age. I’m keeping faith I will keep my health as long as possible. Thank you for commenting
You are so right Lynda it’s true more people are definitely living longer so hopefully they are also enjoying that time fulfilling their passion!! Great share Lynda
Thank you Lynette- let’s hope we live long and healthy
