Is Ageing Affecting Your Self Esteem?
Ageing…….one thing I’ve been thinking about as I get older is whether other baby boomers like myself feel worse about themselves because they are getting older. This got me thinking about some really excellent points I want to share on this article.
Real Life Experiences
Baby boomers have real-life experiences they can share with millennial’s and other generations. These are not things we read about on the Internet, but rather situations we have lived in our own lives.
Experience is the best teacher, but this does take time. Wouldn’t you feel better about yourself if you could pass on some of those real life experiences to people who can learn from them?
I really can’t think of anything better to drive home the point that you have a lot to offer in yourself and you shouldn’t suffer just because of ageing. The key thing is how can you go about doing that?
Social Media
Many baby boomers have been slow to embrace social media because they don’t feel they are computer savvy enough. As you get older the world is changing around you and certainly computers have become a big part of it.
Social media really provides you the opportunity to share your life experiences with new friends and followers. The best way to do that is to get involved in some of the primary social media websites such as Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, and Instagram.
You may even want to join a discussion forum and start participating in some of the discussions. You can do a Google search for specific forums relating to things that interest you and come up with numerous opportunities very quickly.
I Can’t Do What I Used To Do
Certainly ageing does present some obstacles because we can’t always do what we used to do in the past just from physical limitations. However, you do not need to let your self esteem suffer because of things that have been taken away from you.
A better approach is to replace those with new and potentially exciting things. In my case I like to travel, and I have a blog and a home business that helps keep me busy.
This is easy to setup online and anybody can do it regardless of how old they are. All you really need is a computer, or smartphone, and you really can run an online business anywhere regardless of your current age and attitude.
Ageing Is No Barrier
When I hit 50 I remember having a massive party with all my family and friends. When I hit 60, although I had a party it was a smaller one and for quite a while I felt low and not excited at all. 60 felt so much different to 50. Ageing became a real focus of my thoughts. However, I began to celebrate who I was and that I was still alive, healthy and had so much I still wanted to do in my life.
We should all be thankful for our life, experience and for every day we wake up. I refuse to let ageing be any kind of barrier to what I want to do and achieve. Mind over matter is a powerful thing. Believing in ourselves will go a long way to improving any self esteem issues we have.
